Press Release N°1
27 July 2000

THE MASTER RALLYE 2000 TAKES OFF!

Rain was the first to welcome the competitors in the Master Rallye 2000 Wednesday morning around the fountains of Trocadéro, looked down upon by the "Great Lady ", the Eiffel Tower. On the programme, administrative verifications for everybody; verification of all identity documents for persons and vehicles allowing the efficient conduct of the operations for the passage of the caravan into the six countries crossed between 26 July and 6 August. Once the verifications had been completed, in a tremendous atmosphere alongside René Metge, 51 motorcycles, 37 cars and 5 trucks took off from Trocadéro Square in the direction of Nancy.

Renowned visitors !! A great friend of René Metge and the most long-standing of rally raid drivers, Georges Houel came to salute all his friends. From his oldest colleagues to the youngest participants, it was with great sincerity and not without emotion that he gave them his salute!

The current recordman of the single-handed boat world tour and winning co-driver of the 1999 edition of the Master Rallye alongside Jean-Louis Schlesser, Philippe Monnet also came to wish them "God speed ".

Fountains: Whilst René gave starting orders to the first motorcycle after the morning’s clouds had dispersed, and under the sun which had returned to warm everyone’s hearts, the fountains of Trocadéro took over from the Great Lady to encourage each and everyone. Very beautiful pictures can be expected! !

From the South of Turkey…: Eight young Turkish ladies aged 4 to 10 years old presented a set of dances born in the South of Turkey before the departure. The competitors have now set off with beautiful pictures of what the caravan will be able to appreciate on the arrival in Istanbul of 6 August.

Nancy Parc des Expositions: Scrutineering took place in Nancy in the ACL (Automobile Club Lorrain) premises from Wednesday evening to Thursday midday. Finally there were 50 motorcycles, 37 cars and 5 trucks which set off on the first special on the rally cross terrain of Lunéville-Chenevières. Fairly delicate limbering up on a very muddy and very sinuous terrain, but which is still a very good beginning for the competitors. All the motorcycles performed the special under rain, the cars and trucks were luckier with the appearance of very warm rays of sun.

Jutta Kleinschmidt: For her first participation in the Master Rallye, the German, Jutta Kleinschimdt, at the wheel of her Mitsubishi, will be the first to set off from Stanislas Square. " The Lunéville special was wonderful but also very slippery. I really enjoyed it, it is the first time for me to take part in this rally and it can count a lot for me, notably at the level of the FIA world championship " In the lead therefore of the general rating only a few hours from the departure, she is already a favourite.

Stanislas: It is from the very famous Stanislas Square in the heart of the town of Nancy that the definitive departure of the Master Rallye 2000 will be given at 8:30 pm. World heritage of Unesco, this square has not welcomed an event of this type for a great number of years. It is none the less thanks to the town of Nancy and the support of the Mayor, André Rossinot, that very exceptionally, over one hundred vehicles will be able to set off for new adventures.
